From the artist...
As a young theater kid, I was always on a stage singing big show tunes that were very "Pop-like". After moving away from the stage, I took the music training I had and tried to create my own music that was a mix of Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean and Drake. I became heavily interested in the melodies of early R&B and the big 808's and trap drums that came about in new school hip-hop.

As time moved on, I moved away from theater and threw myself into producing and recording my own creations. For a long time I was working with producers to create beats and sounds for me to then sing on. My whole life changed when I began to learn all aspects of production and engineering for my own music. Incorporating all my favorite genres I began to play around with many different combinations of sounds and styles to create something entirely different in the R&B/Soul/Hip Hop realm, but also something that pays tribute to the iconic past.

In my never ending quest to find and hone my own sound, I found I needed to take my time in the creative process to avoid the pitfall of producing music that is created for the sole purpose of going viral, lacking true instrumentation and quality. This dedication to artistry and authenticity helped me discover my mission statement as an artist and learn what my art has to offer. All art has a chance to offer us the truth about humanity, history, and life. We as artists are able to take the current state of society or our collective past and work it into a medium that helps others discover the truth, internal conflicts, and shared experience. My art is sometimes a love letter, sometimes a pronouncement of pain, or sometimes a reflection or reaction to what is happening around me, but it is always about discovering truth, not just for me but for those who listen.

My goal as an artist is to help bring quality and complexity to new school Hip-Hop and R&B music. Many would think that my goal would be to become famous or a mainstream artist. However, I want to put myself in a position to be well-known and respected in the music community rather than in mainstream media. Following in the footsteps of James Fauntleroy or The Dream, I want to be known for always playing a integral role behind the scenes of the musical process. Whether that is as a producer, engineer or the artist myself, I want my ear and my input to be the thing that is most sought after. If becoming an artist happens in the process of my goal, then I have truly succeeded.

THE MUSIC

Solo Works. . .
K-Wicks writes music focused on letting listeners experience their own emotional vulnerabilities...sadness, anxiety, love, loss, hope. Rather than dictate the message, the intent is to let people feel the music in whatever way it happens for them. The harmonies are written in the imitation of the human consciencness, like the inner voice and all the messages from the heart and mind, working in concert to inform what you feel and speak. The main vocal is meant to translate all thoughts and emotions heightened by the background vocals. Much of his work comes from the human voice..."I use a lot of vocal chops and vocal samples as I feel the voice is the one instrument that is capable of unlimited, amazing things." Rather than sit and write beats or lyrics, K-Wicks relies on making everything in the moment..."Freestyling is the purest form of my craft." As a featured artist on tracks for other musicians, K-Wicks deems this privilege one of his most rewarding experiences..."It's definitely humbling to be able to add on to someone's world. Not only do I get to make new collaborative partnerships, I have the opportunity to work in different genres and styles of music and ultimately get to reach more people with my voice."

MUSIC PRODUCTION
SCOOTER ROGERS

"Its been nothing short
of an honor to work with K-Wicks.
He's prompt, reliable, efficient,
has a wonderful ear for music
and an uncanny ability to take a song from good and turn it into great.
My debut album has gained a lot of traction and noteworthy responses
and it couldn't have been done
without K-Wicks' help.
Looking forward to many more
collaborative projects."
Working on Scooter Rogers' debut album, J.O.Y., was a life changing experience for K-Wicks. "It was the first project I was able to completely put together from engineering to mixing and mastering." K-Wicks had met Scooter at a local Portland open-mic called Late Lyrics. "We both admired each other's authenticity and motivation and started to talk about working together." After meeting with many different producers, Scooter picked K-Wicks to be the executive producer for the project. "We then recorded song after song after song and in the span of a weekend, we had artists from all over Portland come into my studio and record verses and some even sent in their contributions. We had countless fun late nights of talking concepts and ideas for how to make this project memorable and also stand the test of time." This album brought out the best in both Scooter and K-Wicks. They created a beautiful piece of art that all started out as Scooter's vision. "It was a pleasure to work with Scooter and we are currently in the process of recording his second album."

RAIN EZRA

"Rainezra is easily one of the most talented singer/songwriters I have ever met. When she approached me about recording her first ever E.P., I was nothing but honored and humbled to do so. She is very easy to record as she comes in with everything memorized and on top of that, freestyles her harmonies and big high riff moments. She also let me mix and master some pieces of the project but everything other than the recording on this project was all Rain. She is very professional and one of my favorite new artist’s coming out of Portland. She is currently working on a collaborative album that will be coming out
sometime this year."

AMANDA KELLIE

"Amanda Kellie is a power house vocalist and local Portland artist. I met her at the Late Lyrics open-mic in downtown Portland and was completely blown away by her natural talent and stage presence. A friend of mine had given her my information and we ended up meeting and discussing how I could help her get some of her first music recorded. She came to me with the lyrics and melody for a song and I crafted a beat around the concept. We then recorded the song and I mixed and mastered the beat and vocals together. She was able to put this song out as her first debut single “Numb”. It was an honor to work with Ms. Kellie as we are getting ready to collaborate on another single very soon."
